The Hall/ Van de Castle system may shed some light on the problem of identification of who the dream characters are. Since clarity is lacking at this point, the Casto system shall be used for assistance in the determination of who brings the dreams. Lindblom

WHO? "Characters, as already mentioned, consist of people, animals, or mythical figures. They are "coded" as characters, meaning they are "categorized" or "classified," when any one of the conditions set forth below can be satisfied. It should be kept in mind that the term character is used to refer both to an individual person or animal and also to a group of such individuals. A couple or a crowd is therefore called a character."  http://psych.ucsc.edu/dreams/Coding/characters.html#Definition

That would mean that the dream characters mentioned are individual persons or animals AND a group that is called a character. Lindblom

WHO? Further work is being done at this time to denominate the dream characters. There are emergent characteristics. The dream characters are activist in a manner not usually associated with dreamwork. That is to say, they have a real world effect confirmed by special consensus (a Castaneda term).

Classes of Characters

"After the characters of a dream have been determined using the foregoing criteria, each codeable character, except animal characters, is classified under each of the four following headings:

  1. Number
  2. Gender
  3. Identity
  4. Age "
