Below is an email thread between Eric Lindblom and the C. G. Jung Institute in Zürich in regard to Juarez.

Sibylle Dschemilow
C.G. Jung-Institut Zürich

I believe I understand Dr. A. Ribi' s concern. Please accept my apology. My request, more clearly, is for peer review for the Juarez project and, of course, for the horrible and heartbreaking crimes in Juarez. http://juarez.bravehost.com and http://results.bravehost.com

Confustion does not lead to clarity. I admit to the intial confusion of this project. (I am defending myself against the horror of the Juarez situation and am, thereby, resistant. My heart is breaking.) What is difficult is that the Juarez project is in its early stages and, as yet, not yet defined clearly. Thereby, the need is for clarity. A method for seeking clarity is peer review. Another is science. (That means that one should not expect clarity now. Worse, I think a number of elements in the Juarez project are close to incomprehensible. The crimes, themselves, are close to inconceivable. The whole project is, in other words, fully anomalous experience. That, in turn, is the point: the use of anomalous experience.)

Discipline can lead to clarity. I have ways to cope with anomalous experience to make it clear. I am a social scientist, a psychologist. I can hide behind my discipline long enough to define the incomprehensible situation happening in Juarez. This may be a useful rationalization. What I can do, at this point, is to propose a modification of The Scientific Method (hypothesis, method, data and results) to have some kind of structure thereby some kind of initial understanding of dreamwork. That is the only clarity I have as a start. Thereby, the concerns I am expressing could be thought as scientific and, in a sense thereby, real and researchable. Once I do that, I suspect I can drop the defense.

Method can lead to clarity. In regard to clarity using the Ullman method, there is a dream table. In my case, the dream table is being assembled for use while in the dream state. It is lucid dreamwork. I do not know who is bringing the dreams. Who are the characters in dreams? That is my question. That is to say, I am the dreamer and there are characters in the dreams that are highly anomalous/ unusual for me. I want to state clearly that I am having a lot of difficulty with this project primarly due to the fact the work is anomalous. Anomalous experience, by its very definition, is difficult. That does not mean the experience is bad. I would say that problem aof anomaly is part of what makes this work so enjoyable.

Denomination can lead to clarity. I don't know what to call the characters in my dreams. Are they archetypes from the unconscious? Are they from the collective unconscious? Are they originating within my own mind and, thereby, personal inner teachers? Are they spirits from another world? Is this God or just a fantasy in a dream. I have no idea and would like to know. (It could be a mixture of all of the above.) That is the point of the research: knowing. I believe this area, yet to be completely defined, is both original research and fully researchable albeit a very new area in dreamwork.

Who are the characters in dreams? They lack clarity. I am at the point where I am wondering "who brings the dreams and which it wants thereby?" ("aber wer bringt die Träume und was will er damit" See the rough translation below from Dr. Ribi.) Who brings dreams? Who are the characters in dreams? I would propose that these questions are excellent and fundamental and could lead eventually to the expansion of human knowledge. My question is whether or not this kind of work could lead to eventual expansion of Jungian knowledge.

Logic can lead to clarity. There is a way to understand how dreams are real and, logically, that the characters in dreams are also real. Stanley Krippner, my mentor, is helpful. He has said ""Shamans were the first dreamworkers...if someone could imagine or dream an event, that action was considered to be, in some sense, real." I know the dreams are real. There is a consensus that everyone has dreams. That is not a problem. The problem begins when one looks deeper. Who are the characters in a dream? Are they real and, if so epistomologically, how are they real?

Identification can lead to clarity. Once identified, can those characters create their own dream table? I suspect YES. Characters in dreams could create a dream table. Has anyone ever tried such an idea? I doubt it. The very idea is close to incomprehensible even to me. (I know, also, that this work is hardly the first time the seemingly incomprehensible is possible and researchable. How else would the discipline of dreamwork progress in new, revelationary knowledge? I believe in doing something very new even if it isn't clear at first.)

If you think of it, the characters in the dreams at a dream table would be doing what? They would be reporting their dreams! I find that inconceivable but also quite possible. A dream character has dreams. I could see that if the character in a dream was a spirit from some other world with which I am not at all familiar. Interesting.

Following is the rough translation from Dr. Ribi. Thank you for your patience.

ciao

I do not know eim best will, what Mr. Lindblom of us wants. He always speaks of ark types. But it can reread that with young. Which however is is veilful me. It writes from Dreamwork, but who brings the dreams and which it wants thereby? It should be project to outline more clearly. Dr. Krippner, whom it mentioned I know. With freundlichern greetings

P.S. I am working on writing General Theory about psychology and would very much appreciate any input you many have. EJL

Dear Mr.Lindblom,

Ms. Ursula Weiss asked me to forward your e-mail to Dr. Ribi (our contact person for dreams)
and - as you see below - Dr. Ribi didn't quite understand your questions.
Sorry for that.
Best wishes to you and kind regards,

Liebe Frau Dschemilow,
ich weiss eim besten Willen nicht, was Herr Lindblom von uns will. Er spricht immer von Archetypen. Aber das kann er bei Jung nachlesen. Was das aber soll ist mir schleierhaft. Er schreibt von Dreamwork, aber wer bringt die Träume und was will er damit? Er sollte sein Projekt deutlicher umreissen. Dr. Krippner, den er erwähnt kenne ich.
Mit freundlichern Grüssen
     A. Ribi

Dear Ms. Weiss:
(cc: Stanley Krippner PhD, FYI)

Re: Contact with the C.G. Jung-Institut Zürich

Greetings! I wanted to thank the Zurich Institute, Sibylle Dschemilow, for their kind attention. I was asked (see below) to contact you. My question for the Zurich Institute is complex. (I wish it were simple.)

Please allow me to introduce myself first. I teach Consciousness Studies and Conflict Resolution at a Harvard University project called h2o. I research as a Professor in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico with The Institute of Medicine and Advanced Behavioral Technology in Mexico where over 400 women have been horribly murdered. We wish to raise the consciousness of the people in the Juarez area. The method is dreamwork (as per Montague Ullman and Stanley Krippner). My method is to do dreamwork while dreaming.

Please know, I don't know Dr. Ullman but my dissertation chair prior to graduation from Saybrook Graduate School was Stanley Krippner. I've known Dr. Krippner for over a decade. I regard to dreamwork, you may know the name. He is, currently, my post graduate mentor and on the faculty, as am I, of the Institute of Medicine in Juarez, Mexico.

I suspect my question for The Zurich Instute would be more complex than Jungian studies, Zurich, of which I understand you are the director. Most likely my question could be forwarded to another Jungian analyst. My question, then, would be: "Would you be willing to forward my email to the appropriate Jungian professional?" (If your choice would be Montague Ullman, please don't hesitate to forward my email to him. I wish to be inclusive, here, and Dr. Ullman may well be one of the best Jungian analysts in the world. As I say, I haven't yet met him and understand that Dr. Ullman is still with us but is advanced in years and therefore of consideration and
diplomacy.)

Here is my researchable problem area. I would like to describe my research in Jungian terms because I suspect the research is about archetypes. It follows logically I believe. However, I am not an analyst but am, rather, in Humanistic and Transpersonal Psychology. I am, therefore, unqualified to comment. The Zurich Institute, of course, is the most qualified place to comment in the world.

I'd like to describe the Juarez project if I may. The website illustrating the Juarez research is located at http://results.bravehost.com

The question for a Jungian analyst is if the project described on the website would be one that would inspire Jungian analytical interest or would another discipline be more appropriate?

ciao

Sibylle Dschemilow

Thank you for answering my question about archetype. (There has been a discussion about it among friends for many years.)

I had another question. For years I have thought about training as a potential Jungian Analyst. I have always been impressed especially when I recall that when Dr. Jung was asked (in a film) if he believed in God, he didn't need to believe because he knew God. That, for me, is a very accurate way to describe how I feel. I would enjoy more information about your program.

There are, of course, many reasons why I'd inquire. It is a complex system.

ciao
